Blackout Tattoos Are The Latest Fashion Trend In Singapore

At first sight, "blackout" tattoos may appear to be a pretty unconventional form of body art; nevertheless, there is more to them than meets the eye: these attention-grabbing patterns cover older tattoos that were not desired.

Tattoo artist Chester Lee, who works out of Singapore's Oracle Tattoo shop, has recently published some of his work on the internet, rapidly gaining much attention. Instead of removing the previous tattoos, he covers them with new ink in a laborious, careful technique that takes a significant amount of time. "That exact piece I [had] been at for a couple of months, probably 20 odd hours," adds Lee.

Despite the blackouts, it is possible to make out the contrasting lines used in ancient tattoos. This imparts a unique quality to the designs and ensures that no two Blackout tattoos will ever look identical.
